Day's End

This is oil on gessoed hardboard panel. I live on a small island in the Baltic Sea in Denmark where the light is renowned for it's quality due to the water surrounding us here. Due to this special light we often get dramatic sunsets, especially in the summer.

This piece is of clouds that seemed to erupt forth from the horizon right outside the fields outside my house out here in the countryside.

I witnessed this spectacular sunset firsthand, took some reference photos and painted this piece in about nine hours.
